I discovered The Sensible Fork by simply walking around Ridgewood. I saw the menu outside the restaurant and saw that it had so many gluten free as well as vegetarian and vegan choices! I was blown away and quickly became obsessed with finding a reason to eat there.
My friend and I went there for brunch last weekend. The cafe was so small, cute and well decorated. It felt like home.
We had the option of ordering from both the breakfast and lunch menu.
Look at this menu!
Look at all the options!
The first question our waiter asked is if either of us had a gluten allergy. I responded yes and he let us know that anything ordered gluten free takes longer to make because nothing is prepared ahead of time and everything is cooked separately!
We decided to start with the fresh seasonal fruit. It had pineapple, blueberries, blackberries, grapes, apples, pears and mango.
I was pleasantly surprised with the portion. All of the fruit was fresh, juicy and tasty.
My friend ordered the omelet with mozzarella cheese, spinach, sundried tomatoes and avocado with gluten free toast.
Julie loved her breakfast and it was huge!
I ordered the fried banana stuffed french toast with gluten free bread. Look at this presentation.
Again, the portion was huge. The bread was sweet and savory all at the same time. There was no aftertaste either and it had a little cornbread taste. It was such a treat.
While we were eating here, a few other customers came in and everyone was very friendly. They all either had gluten allergies or had immediate family members that did. There was a camaraderie among all of us that made the atmosphere even more welcoming.
